Help artist Phil Lambert break the record for the largest soil painting – make soil paint and create your own soil art.
About this Event

Join us on Monday 2 November at the UCL Quad, main campus, as acclaimed soil artist Phil Lambert attempts a world record for the largest solo painting made entirely from soil-based paints, in support of the Save Soil movement.

Over the course of the day, Phil will create an 8ft x 8.2ft painting using pigments made from the earth itself, with the attempt officiated by Record Breakers UK.

The event takes place in the run-up to COP31 in Turkey. It is partly a public call to recognise healthy soils as one of the most powerful climate solutions we have.

Come along, watch the record attempt happen live, make some soil art of your own, and add your voice to a growing movement for living soils.

Why we’re coming together

Soil is one of the planet’s largest carbon stores. Healthy, living soils pull carbon from the atmosphere and lock it underground, while also holding water, supporting biodiversity and growing the food we all depend on.

Yet over 70% of nations have not included soil as a climate mitigation solution in their nationally determined contributions (NDCs) - their climate plans - ahead of COP31.

This record attempt is about making soil visible. By gathering in one place, we want to show world leaders that people will stand behind policies that recognise soil as a climate solution. Every person who turns up helps send that message.

Help Make Soil Art

You don’t need to be an artist to take part. Come along to make your own small soil painting using soil-based paints, alongside Phil’s record attempt.

It’s a hands-on way to connect with the ground beneath our feet and to see soil as something alive and beautiful, not just dirt. Feel free to bring friends, family, classmates and colleagues. It promises to be a lovely moment of art, ecology and community.

All are welcome, no experience needed. The more people who join, the louder our message for soil!
