Joanie is a multi-disciplinary dance artist with 13+ years of teaching experience. Starting with Irish Step dance at age 5, she transitioned to belly dance at the age of 14, and by age 18 was teaching and performing regularly. She spent 8 years as a senior faculty member at Saffron Dance, one of the largest belly dance schools in the country, eventually serving as Artistic Director from 2017-2020. During this time she also spent 5 years as a soloist and company dancer with Nomad Dancers, a Persian and Central Asian performance troupe in Washington DC. In 2017, she discovered partner dance, starting with Bachata and soon expanding to Brazilian Zouk, which she studied at District Zouk in Washington DC, with faculty including Ashley Kent, Gui Prada, Alisson Sandi, and Elena Rovito. Although no longer a full-time dancer, she continues to find great joy in dance, and is excited to share her love of Brazilian Zouk!
