Trumpeter and composer Brandon Woody, born and raised in Baltimore, began his musical journey at age 7. After studying at the Baltimore School for the Arts, Brubeck Institute, and Manhattan School of Music, he’s become an international artist, performing with notable musicians like Robert Glasper, Solange, and Marcus Gilmore. Woody formed his band, Upendo, in 2017 to showcase his original compositions. Known for his work in jazz, he also collaborates with global brands like Calvin Klein, Nike, and Reebok. His influence extends into film, as he served as bandleader for Lady in the Lake. Woody’s accolades include being named "Musician to Watch" by Baltimore Magazine in 2022 and winning the 2021 Best Musician of the Year Award. As he says, he uses music as “a tool for healing, genuine connection, and celebrating community.”
