About this Event
BWELL will be welcoming various women from around Western New York to come and share their knowledge. We're excited to welcome everyone to Big Ditch Brewing for a educational session in a calm, community setting.
Dr. Penny Messinger is an associate professor of history at Daemen University, where she teaches a range of courses in American history, women’s history, and women’s studies. This talk draws upon a lecture for her course, Rural Worlds Lost: Appalachian History and Culture, while an exchange scholar at the American Studies Center, University of Warsaw, Poland. Her main areas of academic research include 20th century Appalachian history, women’s history during the Progressive era, and cultural history. She is currently collaborating on two research projects. Exploratory Footnotes: A Survival Guide to the History Wars for Educators and Citizens explores battles over history education, and “You Should Hate a Capitalist Like a Mad Dog!” Anna Mogilowa, Boris Reinstein and the Socialist Labor Party in Buffalo, NY (1891-1898), examines radical politics in Buffalo as Mogilowa and Reinstein worked among immigrant workers (mostly Poles) to build the socialist movement.
