What if your child didn’t just learn about the brain — but had to use science to diagnose it?
In this immersive, week-long experience, students become part of a neuroscience investigation team tasked with solving a set of complex memory-related brain cases. Working in small groups, campers are assigned a “patient” and must determine what has gone wrong - and how it might be repaired.
How It Works
Over five days, students take on the roles of different types of neuroscientists, using a range of hands-on investigations to build their case:
- Examine brain structure and identify lesions
- Analyze behavioral data to uncover memory deficits
- Study tissue samples and cellular changes
- Reconstruct neural circuits and test how signals flow
Each day adds new evidence to their case file, bringing them closer to a final diagnosis.
The Mission
By the end of the week, each team will:
- Identify the affected memory system
- Determine which brain regions are involved
- Explain the underlying biological cause
- Present a final diagnosis and proposed repair strategy
Why This Is Different
This is not a typical science camp.
Students don’t just follow instructions — they:
- Work through multi-step scientific problems
- Interpret data and connect ideas across disciplines
- Collaborate, debate, and refine their thinking
- Experience how real scientists investigate the brain
The program is designed to be both intellectually engaging and highly interactive, blending experiments, challenges, and creative problem-solving throughout the week.
Who Is This For?
Ideal for students who:
- Enjoy problem-solving, puzzles, and hands-on activities
- Are interested in science, medicine, or how the brain works
- Are looking for a more engaging and in-depth experience than traditional STEM camps
No prior experience required — just curiosity and willingness to think.
Built by Real Scientists
BioCompass Kids is created and taught by PhD neuroscientists who study brain function and disease.
We bring real science into an accessible, hands-on experience - without simplifying away the thinking.
