For their 2024 Spring program, Counterpoint will present works by Brahms, Beethoven, and Bartok which mine the rich lode of European folk songs as inspiration for lively and sophisticated music for chamber vocal ensemble and piano.Three of Vermont’s finest classical instrumentalists join the singers of Counterpoint for a fascinating intersection of folk traditions and classical music: Johannes Brahms’s passionate "Zigeunerlieder", Ludwig van Beethoven’s Scottish folksongs, and Bela Bartok's "Four Slovak Folk Songs". Plus piano trio movements by Fanny Hensel and Clara Schumann.
