About this Event

Speaker

Jim Lynch was born in Carrick on Suir, County Tipperary. He was a Primary School teacher in docklands Dublin, before travelling through Mexico, to Tennessee, to Minneapolis, studying radical education, civil rights and the indigenous American Indians.

Back in Ireland he co-founded Ireland's first professional Theatre in Education company, which flourished for over thirty years. He attained an M.Litt (Sociology) in Trinity College Dublin and was immersed in community education and social care.

He came to England as an economic migrant in the early '80s and lived with his young family in Bristol for several years. Built a freelance practice in career development, change/transition management and organisational problem-solving. He moved to Bradford on Avon in the late '90s. Ran The George at Woolley with his wife Julie as a music hub for ten years, including the annual Woolley Street Festival. Then founded the annual BoA Fringe Festival.

He is co-founder of BoaCan, through which he started and/or fostered several community initiatives, including The Hub, Made in Bradford on Avon, the Iron Duke/Avonworks and more.

He is currently supporting 'Young Futures'; a post-covid support platform for youth and young adults.

About The Talk

Jim will give his views on what creativity is (and isn't) using aspects of his life and career as examples. He will describe how and why he feels creatively nourished by Bradford on Avon, how others may have a similar experience and what we, as a community and business community, might do to share and foster a culture of creative cooperation.

About

Bradford Talks is a monthly event with local speakers who share original ideas and provoke new ways of thinking through stories.

Aside from giving a voice to the vast amount of local wisdom, these events are designed to bring the community together and foster deeper connections.

Each event will feature one talk plus a Q&A / discussion session and take place on the fourth Wednesday of each month.
