This marks the fourth year that Stumpy Joe and Steve Arvey have performed together on Main Street, celebrating the art and history of the cigar box guitar and other homemade instruments. Their annual performance honors the long tradition of grassroots music-making, featuring instruments built from cigar boxes, canoe paddles, washtubs, and other found materials—true folk ingenuity brought to life in the heart of downtown Bradenton.
The Bradenton Cigar Box Guitar Festival showcases musicians from around the country and beyond who perform on handmade instruments, keeping alive a musical tradition rooted in creativity, resourcefulness, and the blues.
About the Artists
Steve Arvey is known worldwide for supporting instrument builders and helping musicians understand how to play 3- and 4-string instruments, inspiring players of all ages to explore homemade and alternative instruments.
Stumpy Joe is one of the most creative and influential one-string canoe-paddle washtub bass players in the world, recognized for his inventive approach and powerful performances.
