About this Event

White supremacy has had longstanding impact on body image research, in terms of how appearance-realted work is conceptualised, conducted, analysed, interpreted and disseminated. This seminar aims to offers a space to critically explore antiracist and intersectional approaches, with a focus practical strategies and research methods beyond traditional approaches.

Speakers :

  • Dr Jamie Chan - An overview of the impacts of white supremacy in body image research
  • Dr Emma Waite and Dr Helena Lewis-Smith - Inclusive body image research practices
  • Dr Emily Dodd, Dr Jo White and a public contributor - Co-production through patient and public involvement (PPI) with marginalised groups in the UK
  • Dr Nikki Hayfield - Story completion method.

Each presentation will be approximately 30 minutes, followed by 15 minutes for Q&A. The seminar will conclude with a facilitated discussion. This is a hybrid event, with both in-person and online participation available.


Funding opportunities

A limited number of bursaries (up to £150) are available to support in-person attendance. Priority will be given to individuals without access to institutional funding, particularly those from minoritised and/or marginalised backgrounds, including doctoral and early career researchers.
