About this Event
Encouraging kids to be more active
With so much concern over child fitness and obesity, Boxercise has the perfect answer to providing fitness sessions that are great fun, easy to teach and suitable for all ages. Boxercise is already taught in hundreds of schools in the UK and has been shown to build confidence and increase self-esteem in under-achieving pupils.
Boxercise is one of the most effective forms of cross-training available today so is also suitable as part of general fitness training for those pupils already involved in sports activities. Boxercise enhances sports specific senses, including hand-eye coordination, balance and timing.
Boxercise is also great for those children not engaged with traditional sports as it is essentially a fitness class based on fun! Boxercise sessions can be run in a non-competitive format to appeal to this group and as Boxercise classes can be found in most leisure centres and health clubs around the UK you are setting up an exercise habit for life.

Meet the Coach
Haseeb Akhtar - Biography
As a young boy, Saturday evenings spent with my dad were always an occasion to look forward to. While my mum, brothers and sister had retired to bed, my dad and I would be glued to ITV watching the young British boxers grace the stage to showcase their skills in a bid to become household names in front of a national mainstream audience. During that time I witnessed the likes of Frank Bruno, Lennox Lewis, Chris Eubank, Nigel Benn and, of course, Prince Naseem Hamed make their rise through their respective weight classes. I didn’t realise it at the time, but these experiences planted the seeds of interest in boxing within me. I have been an avid fan of boxing since that point and have participated in the sport up until very recently. In 2016 I started coaching boxing in various local youth clubs to young men who needed discipline and direction in their lives.
My passion for coaching is still burning brightly to this day and in addition to coaching boxing in local community settings, I coach boxing in Longsight Boxing Club. I would say the best thing about coaching boxing is teaching the science but not the violence! To this day there is no better feeling when I teach students certain moves whether it be defence or attack and the students execute the move with timing, grace and precision.
