Lehighton Boys and Girls Band To Present Annual Christmas Concert
The Lehighton Boys and Girls Band will present its annual Christmas concert on Saturday, December 14th at 2:00 PM. The concert theme is “What this concert needs is MORE JINGLE BELLS!” Several of the band’s selections either contain or focus around Jingle Bells. The band is made up of students from 4th through 12th grade.
The band will open with Mariah Carey’s famous, “All I want for Christmas is You”. It will be followed by “Deck the Halls with Chips and Salsa” which is a variation of “Deck the Halls” with a very strong latin beat. The song is a favorite of many of the band members.
The classic, “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” will be next on the program. This piece is arranged by Victor Lopez and will feature band member Molly Zacharias on a trumpet solo. It will be followed by “Jingle Bell Polka,” which has a fun melody and counter melody.
A classic Christmas Carol, “O Little Town of Bethlehem” is the next number on the program followed by yet another classic Christmas song, “O Come, All Ye Faithful”.
A Christmas concert wouldn’t be complete without Santa so the band will perform a rousing rendition of “Jolly Old Saint Nicholas”. “All is NOT Calm” is the title of the band’s next selection. This piece of music starts with a peaceful rendering of Silent Night which is interrupted by a rousing rendition of Jingle Bells and Jolly Old St. Nick at random times throughout the song. This novelty piece is a favorite of many of the band members.
“Nightmare on the Housetop” is the band’s next number which is a rendition of Up On the Housetop but written in a minor key which gives the song an entirely different “feel” making the audience not know whether this song is meant for Christmas or Halloween.
The Band will finish the concert with the classic version of “Jingle Bells” arranged by Mike Story.
The concert is free to the public but donations will be accepted and are appreciated by the band. The Boys and Girls Band offers VERY reasonable lessons and those taking lessons are offered the full band experience at no additional charge. Lessons are offered on all band instruments.
