About this Event

Class Description
Prerequisite: 'Beginner Box Building', 'Box building 101' or simmilar box building experience; please email [email protected] if unsure if this class is for you.
This box is made from cherry or sapele. The top is a veneered panel of a burl. The lift tab is olive wood. The box bottom is lined with espresso pigskin. The lid is attached with a unique all-wood hinge.
The box has a hand-rubbed Osmo ® polyx-oil finish, a combination of vegetable oils and waxes.
The materials fee for this class is $50. This is separate from the ticket price and is to reimburse the instructor for any tools or materials used in this class. This will be paid once, directly to the instructor at the start of the first class meeting. This instructor accepts Venmo.
Learning Objectives
This box is number five in a series designed to teach the student a different skill. they are:
- Wooden hinge construction
- leather lining installation
- Osmo poly-x finish application.
Instructor - Don Boudreau
Don has exhibited his work at over 500 Art and Craft shows all over the country including the prestigious Smithsonian Craft Show. In 2011, Don was commissioned by the US State Department to design and build cuff link boxes to hold the Presidential cuff links given to visiting dignitaries.
In early 2018 Don retired from the show circuit and started the South Florida Woodworking School which he sold in early 2020 and moved back to Massachusetts where he is currently teaching at the local Woodcraft store and privately.
Target Audience
Students who have completed 'Beginner Box Building', 'Box building 101' or simmilar box building experience. Students who own hearing protection and a digital caliper. Students must be 16 years old or older. All students under 18 must be accompanied by and under the direct supervision of a responsible adult.
Your Ticket Includes
- Wood to build your box
- Eye protection will be supplied
- Access to A2's Wood Shop and tools for the duration of the session.
Class Policies
Attire: Attendants should wear close-toed slip-resistant shoes (steel-toe work boots are ideal), long pants, and no loose-fitting clothing that could possibly get caught in machinery. Make sure to wear only natural fibers (i.e., cotton, wool, linen, etc) and bring reading glasses if needed for detailed work.
