Somewhere between medieval plainchant, electroacoustic improvisation, and spectral folk song lies Bow and Arrow, the remarkable collaboration between Lea Bertucci and Michael Beharie. Their debut record occupies a space both ancient and uncannily contemporary. Bertucci calls it “devotional music for the age of alienation,” music that “sounds like the drugs kicking in." Bells appear throughout the album as gestures of both anachronism and quiet resistance - a salve to a time of perpetual distraction. Bertucci and Beharie’s voices intertwine, dissolve into electronic distortion, and re-emerge in moments of harmony. Like an afternoon wandering through frozen terrain. Like imagined intimacy.

Phipps Pt.

Phipps Pt. is the duo project of songwriter and artist Lovage Sharrock and electronic musician Jon Leidecker (Wobbly, Negativland). Falling somewhere between precise songcraft and free improvisation, acid folk and ambient electronics, the music they create is an ongoing conversation between two singular artists and longtime friends listening and responding to one another with care and curiosity.

High Primes

High Primes is found in the moment just before everything goes off the rails. A collection of nominally country songs turned on their sides, the band’s intricate arrangements find themselves jumping fluidly between time signatures with moments of rockabilly and doom metal interwoven with pedal steel guitar swells. Throughout, there is a thread or threat of collapse. The project of Andrew Smith (guitar, vocals), Matt Robidoux (bass), Phill Hermans (pedal steel, dobro), and Beau Sievers (drums).
