Live at Sam’s is delighted to be hosting the debut Sheffield performance for this great new super trio.Benji mulled over a bouzouki-based project for a long while, until finally picking up the phone and bringing these three players together. The thrust is simply to explore the bouzouki and all its glorious possibilities. Throughout this EP you will hear the instrument’s versatility, from its punchy rhythmic backing to its bold leading melodies – from its dancing, delicately weaving counter-melody to intricate soloing lines more akin to the Greek style.
The three players draw inspiration from their own musical backgrounds and celebrate their love of the Irish bouzouki through tune and, as all are accomplished singers, through song.
Each member is well known in his own right with various ongoing concerns active on the UK folk scene.
James Fagan works with Nancy Kerr, The Melrose Quartet, Tim Van Eyken, and co-presents one of the few remaining UK folk radio shows: ‘Thank Goodness it’s Folk’ with Sam Hindley on Sheffield Live! Radio.
Jon Doran plays in a duo with Janice Burns, has his own outfit The Northern Assembly and performs solo, as well as being a member of Ruth Notman’s band.
Benji Kirkpatrick is a member of Bellowhead, the Seth Lakeman Band, works solo and was previously a member of Faustus and Steeleye Span.
