Botany of Colonization
About this Event
Join Director of Garden Programs, Angel Martinez Lombardo, for a discursive exploration of the botany of settler colonialism.
We'll cover a brief history of the European colonization of the Americas through the lens of the environment. We'll discuss colonization as a "geomorphic force," affecting all aspects of land including people, plants and animals.
Well also unpack the semantics behind scientific classifications of plant invasiveness as it relates to urban living, and the complicated ways science can become an accomplice of the forces of colonialism.
If ticket price is a barrier to entry there are scholarships available. Please email [email protected] for free/discount tickets.
