About this Event
In this session artist and Projects Coordinator at the Canal & River Trust, Ryan Powell, will demonstrate how to make anthotype prints from plants that grow along the canalside. In the session we will cover:
- Identifying canalside plants, their folklore and traditional uses
- How to extract a photosensitive dye from plants
- How to prep the paper for the printing
- How to lay out your plants for a successful print
Anthotype print making is a form of cameraless photography where an image is created using the photosensitive properties of plant dyes. These prints must be left out in the sun for several days, or even weeks, for the image to develop. The session will cover making the plant dye and prepping the paper that you can take away with you to make your prints at home.
