Botanical Inks Workshop with Kasia Parker
Discover the beautiful colours hidden in plants and everyday food waste.
Join Kasia Parker at Earthlings – The Healing Café for a hands-on afternoon exploring the art of botanical ink-making. Learn how to turn wild plants and food waste including oak galls, pea flowers and red cabbage into natural inks for painting, drawing and writing.
Along the way, you’ll explore the fascinating history of botanical inks and the science behind how these colours are made.
What you’ll learn
- Different techniques for extracting colour from natural materials.
- How to use thickeners and modifiers to transform and enhance your inks.
- How to create a spectrum of colours and shades.
- How to make your own annotated colour palettes.
- Ways to experiment and create artwork using the inks you’ve made.
- Practical techniques for preserving and storing your inks.
There will be plenty of time to experiment, explore different colours and enjoy the creative process. The skills you learn will also provide a useful foundation for anyone interested in natural fabric dyeing.
