While autumn marks the end of the growing season for flowers and vegetables, it is prime growing time for the rich diversity of local wild mushrooms. These mysterious life forms display a variety of fleshy shapes, colors, and textures, making them fun subjects to draw.
In this 2-day workshop, you’ll learn to capture the beauty of mushrooms and how to accurately portray their unique morphology. Class demonstrations will show you how to create a contemporary botanical plate with spore prints, cuts, and more. Work with the paper and medium of your choice and experience, either graphite or colored pencil.
One week before the start of class, the instructor will send you tips on how to successfully forage for mushrooms in your area. Completion of Introduction to Botanical Illustration or similar drawing experience is recommended but not required.
Classes will be led by Kathie Miranda, a contemporary multi-media artist and educator. She is a graduate of Pace University, with further studies at Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts and Paier College of Art, she coordinated the Art program at the New York Botanical Garden and is past-president of the New York chapter of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators.
Class will take place Friday, September 24 & Saturday, September 25 both from 10 am - 3 pm. Admission is $160 for non-members. Members can take advantage of a 10% discount at check-out!
