Botanical Embroidery Workshop with Lauren Snyder
About this Event
If you have ever admired the custom embroidery on a jacket; or wondered about adding a little more flair to an old pair of jeans; or you're just in need of a fun creative outlet...this workshop is for you! This workshop will allow you to explore the basics of botanical embroidery and practice simple stitches in preparation for creating your very own hand embroidered art piece. Embroidery can be a deeply meditative hobby that allows for intuitive flow, beauty in imperfection, and the stitching (pun intended) of art into the functionality of everyday life. This is a chance to shed our inhibitions and just be present with this beautiful and functional art form. (Also, a great project for handmade gifts for the holiday season!)
All materials will be provided and all levels of experience are welcome! Students will receive a "Beginners" Embroidery Kit to take home with them, so they can continue practicing their stitches and complete a few simple projects at home.
Lauren is a queer herbalist, botanical artisan, and local plant walk guide. The third generation of their family to live in Ojai, Lauren has always been inspired by and deeply connected to the plants of the Ojai valley and beyond. Lauren founded Thimble and Seed, a small local business that offers botanical art, handcrafted herbal products, and educational workshops to help people reconnect with nature by way of plant-based wisdom and whimsy.
