Info: This tour begins by crossing through the Boston Common, passing the Brewer Fountain, Frog Pond, Parkman Bandstand, the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, and the Boston Common Baseball Field before crossing Charles Street into the Public Garden. It blends history, landmarks, and green space into one memorable start.
The baseball field highlights Boston Common’s sports connection, where casual pickup games and community recreation continue the park’s long tradition of play. This active use makes the Common feel lively and welcoming — not just a historic site, but a place where Boston gathers, moves, and plays. The route transitions beautifully into the Public Garden, where the pace softens and the scenery becomes even more iconic.

Info: The routes through the Public Garden may vary. If there is a particular area you would like to see, please tell your tour guide. The Swan Boats and the George Washington statue will always be seen on the tour. Other sites in the Public Garden include the Triton Babies Fountain, Make Way for Ducklings Sculpture, Duck Island, the Ether Monument, Edie's Tree, Boston Public Garden Flagpole, the Garden of Remembrance 9/11 Memorial, several other statues and even some unofficial hidden gems. The Public Garden is maintained by the Friends of the Public Garden Organization. Please be respectful of their rules and stay off the grass in areas that are roped off. The friends of the Public Garden do an amazing job keeping the grounds well maintained for visitors to enjoy. It’s a brief but memorable stretch that moves from classic Boston scenery to a site that honors resilience, history, and the city’s enduring spirit.
The estimated walking time from the Public Garden to the Marathon Finish Line is about 12–15 minutes at a comfortable pace.
