This tour, led by local Boston expert William Young, highlights fenestration with neighborhood and architectural style development in mind. A wide range of architectural styles (including residential and commercial) will be featured and highlight how windows and doors contributed to the overall design aesthetic during the time these structures were built.

AIA CONTINUING EDUCATION
• Examine window configurations associated with popular architectural styles during different periods of neighborhood development and growth.
• Compare fenestration of buildings from the same era within a neighborhood and discuss impact of light and ventilation that windows provided to building occupants.
• Locate examples of distinctive fenestration of Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Georgian, Greek Revival, Federal, and Classical Revival designs.
• Contrast fenestration function, ornamentation, details, style, and shape between the neighborhood architecture.
• Discuss how fenestration still defines the neighborhood’s buildings even as they have changed from their original intent.
