Boro 101: Form In Motion: Sculptural Boro with Sydney Bell
About this Event
Learn the fundamentals of working with borosilicate glass using a torch while exploring movement, balance, and personal expression through sculptural form. Inspired by organic shapes, fluidity, and intuitive design, participants will create small-scale wearable or sculptural glass objects that emphasize flow and individuality.
The class will begin with a short grounding breathing exercise and sketch session designed to encourage focus, rhythm, and intentional making before moving into demonstrations and individual hands-on work. Students will learn foundational flameworking techniques including heating, shaping and assembling borosilicate glass to create expressive organic forms.
In the second portion of the workshop, students will explore surface design using glass paints to add color, texture, and additional personality to their completed pieces.
Projects may include wearable forms like pendants/earrings. Design inspiration may be drawn from movement in nature, abstract forms, personal symbols, or intuitive sketch-based compositions.
Eligibility: all skill levels are welcome
Pick-up: The glass needs to cool down overnight, so the students will have to return to UrbanGlass once notified to pick up their work.
We recommend registering for classes early to reserve your spot! We base materials, and teacher needs off of student enrollment. Early registration not only guarantees your spot in class, but also helps to ensure the class will run. Classes with low enrollment may be cancelled within two weeks of the start date of class. Contact our Registrar of Education, Ari Eshoo, at [email protected] if you have questions about the class or would like to arrange a payment plan.
