Boreal is a powerhouse trio of Canadian singer-songwriters—Tannis Slimmon, Katherine Wheatley and Angie Nussey—blending distinct voices and styles. From beautiful and delicate to powerful and uplifting, their stunning harmonies, dynamic musical arrangements, and masterful songwriting create a magical, deeply moving experience that leaves audiences spellbound. Their latest album, Winterbirds (March 2025), has earned Boreal three Canadian Folk Music Awards nominations for Album of the Year, Ensemble of the Year, and Vocal Group of the Year. As David Francey said, “I was transported. They are a rare and wonderful band.”
Given their shared northern upbringing, it’s no surprise that they’ve created a special seasonal concert – Songs for the Snowy Season – which they tour every November and December. The show features original songs that so many Canadians relate to, like Shovelling Snow, Snowball Fight, and Shepherd of the Road (about angel truck drivers who guide us home through blizzards). The Songs for the Snowy Season concert celebrates winter in all its fun, fury, and quiet glory, gently ushering us into the cold months ahead.
