BOOMBOX returns [SAT.1/3] to kick off the new year with our 13th Annual Native Tongues Appreciation Night!! We've found that there's no better way to start the year a night chock-full of classics, rarities, remixes, samples, & more from A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Jungle Brothers, Black Sheep, and the rest of the Native Tongues crew!

Joining us this year is none other than certified mixtape legend J.PERIOD! Originally from Los Angeles, he moved to Brooklyn in 1999 and quickly made a name for himself on the iconic New York mixtape circuit. His unique "audio-biography" approach to his "Best of" mixtapes blends both interviews and music to create a signature sound that bridges the gap between storytelling and DJing. He's officially collaborated with a laundry list of music luminaries including Q-Tip, Nas, The Roots, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, Common, Lauryn Hill, Mary J. Blige, & more! These historic collabs not only secured him the gig of Black Thought's official tour DJ, they also catapulted him on to stages like The Roots Picnic and The Kennedy Center where he brought his aptly-titled stage show, "The Live Mixtape" to life...bringing out legendary artists to perform individual songs while mixing the entire show live! With his knack for storytelling, arsenal of exclusives, and diehard love for the Native Tongues, we couldn't be more hyped to welcome J for an exclusive Natives set and rare Los Angeles homecoming!

Back like he never left, you know we couldn't throw a Native Tongues night without our brother PLATURN! The Bay Area legend and Native Tongues historian brought the idea to us in 2013 as a release party for his "So This Is De La Heaven Part 2" mixtape. A mixtape that Maseo from De La Soul described as, "Out of all the De La mixes I've heard this is the most creative one!" We're alway honored to have the funky viking back on our turntables for another Natives journey!

Since September 2nd, 2006, Boombox has provided a home for Los Angeles hip hop lovers to gather every first Saturday of the month and celebrate the genre’s most respected DJs and producers.
