It’s summer, so it’s time to read about America’s pastime: baseball! This is the true story of brothers from the Dominican Republic who dreamed about making it big in America. Not only did Pedro and Ramon Martinez both love baseball, they loved and supported each other. Will their dreams come true?
Growing Up Pedro is our Bookworm Barbs book for July. Bookworm Barbs is our book club for rising K-2 students. We read shorter chapter books with lots of pictures. Older first and second grade students may be able to read on their own, but the books also make a nice family read aloud, too.
Growing Up Pedro is a true story, and it's part of our year-long celebration, America 250. 2026 is the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, so throughout 2026 we'll occasionally have book selections that honor the rich history of our country.
Bookworm Barbs is a book party! Not only will we talk about the book, we'll enjoy a snack and do a craft, too.
Pick up a copy of the book at the Children’s Department Desk while supplies last. Please register, as space is limited.
