About this Event
Join Nick Newman and Scott McAuley for a discussion around Nick's recently published book "Protest Architecture: Structures of Civil Resistance", which explores the unique intersection between architecture and activism in historical moments of societal change.
Nick Newman is a Director of Studio Bark and U-Build. His experience spans environmental architecture, climate activism, building performance evaluation and deep energy retrofits. Nick is a Passivhaus Designer and has contributed to a number of journals and publications. He is an advocate for radical responses to the Climate Emergency, and has been arrested in October 2019, December 2019, and September 2020 for his involvement in the Extinction Rebellion protests, which brought Central London to a standstill.
With roots in grassroots climate justice activism, Scott McAulay is the founder of the Anthropocene Architecture School – a project fusing architectural, community, and political education with Climate Literacy, Spatial Justice, and the Radical Imagination. He has taught about architecture’s intersections with climate in/action and the Just Transition widely - across Scotland, the U.K., mainland Europe and Turtle Island, and works on projects across the U.K. with Architype, extending the horizons of sustainability as the studio’s first Regenerative Design and Infrastructures Specialist.
