Books Are Burning: An Exclusive Members’ Art Experience

Coral Gables Museum members are invited to an exclusive cultural experience designed to foster a deeper appreciation for the arts and strengthen connections with local creative talent. This program highlights the Museum’s commitment to facilitating access to culture, supporting artistic dialogue, and promoting engagement with the region’s most compelling voices in contemporary art.

The program will take place at Aluna Art Foundation, housed in the historic Tower Art Center in Little Havana. The visit centers on Books Are Burning, a solo exhibition by Ruben Torres Llorca, one of the most significant contemporary Cuban artists living in Coral Gables. Known for his conceptual approach and incisive cultural critique, Torres Llorca’s recent works explore the intersection of literature, cinema, and power. The exhibition also features select pieces from private collections that expand the artist’s ongoing reflection on art as a space for critical thought.

Following the exhibition, participants will explore the Tower Hotel, a 1920s landmark that evolved from a YMCA and World War II hospital into a legendary jazz venue that once hosted icons such as Billie Holiday and Count Basie. Today, its spaces are reimagined through an artistic intervention curated by Aluna, featuring 24 artists who share personal and family histories through diverse media.

The experience will conclude with a visit to the Miami Photographic Observatory Project Room, currently showcasing artist-in-residence Lili(ana).

Drinks will be served, and members wishing to extend their experience may visit additional studios at Tower Studios Miami, located within the same complex.

Street parking along 8th Street is encouraged, as parking will be limited on-site.
