About this Event
Join the Winston Salem Chapter of Jack & Jill, Inc. and Bookmarks for a family event with Black and Brown artists focusing on encouraging young people to share their voices. The event will take place on February 3rd at Hanesbrands Theatre and will include activities (including weaving with the Delta Arts Center), storytelling, a tween/teen writing workshop, and an author's panel. Authors Jorge Redmond, Chrystal Giles, and Judy Allen Dodson will be present to share stories, talk about how powerful it is to tell your story and share your voice.
This is a free event with registration required.

About the Authors
Judy Allen Dodson is a public librarian, archivist, and children's book author. Judy was the winner of the 2016 SCBWI On-the-Verge Emerging Voices Award and the recipient of a North Carolina Arts Council grant. She's a member of SCBWI, the regional co-ambassador for the Authors Guild, and a former member of the Coretta Scott King Archives and History Committee. Judy has a passion for celebrating diverse children's literature and teaching young children about history. Judy lives in Raleigh, North Carolina with her husband and two children. Chrystal D. Giles is a champion for diversity and representation in children’s literature. She made her debut with Take Back the Block, which received multiple starred reviews and was an NPR Books We Love selection. Chrystal lives outside Charlotte, North Carolina, with her husband and son and is currently working on her next middle-grade novel.
Jorge Redmond currently works in the Buncombe County District Attorney’s office as an Assistant District Attorney, and as an adjunct professor in South College’s Legal Department. Black Boy, Black Boy is his debut book written in collaboration with Ali Kamanda.

The Winston-Salem Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., is a non-profit family organization with mothers holding membership. The mission of the Winston-Salem Chapter is to participate in cultural, educational, social, and spiritual programming that will strengthen the family unit; to be involved in community outreach; and to increase participation on a regional and national level.
