Bookmark Making with Invasive Plants
Join in to turn regionally invasive plants, harvested from local restoration sites, into a bookmark! Using a base of recycled paper, participants will be led on papermaking techniques along with discussions on local ecology and the contexts of English Ivy, Red Deadnettle, Reed Canary Grass, Tansy, among other plants used in the workshop. Hosted by eco-artist Joshua Ralph.
TIME: 7:00PM - 8:30 PM PST
LENGTH: 1.5 hours
LOCATION: Strange Fellows Brewery, 1345 Clark Dr, Vancouver, BC
AGES: Adults (ages 19 and up), beginner & up
PRICE: $35 per person per workshop
ACCESSIBILITY: Strange Fellows Brewery is wheelchair accessible. We will communicate verbally with members of the public using listening and spoken language in English. Seating in the brewery is varied, some may have chairs or stools at short height, counter, or bar height seating. Weight capacities of seating is unknown. Please let us know if you have any accessibility needs.
About the Artist
Joshua (Invasive Art Initative) is an uninvited settler-occupier on the shared and stolen lands of the Squamish, Musqueam, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. They are a community-engaged media and eco-artist, interested in changed and changing ecologies, advocating for collaborations on the intersections between art-making and varied understating’s of the “natural” world. They are the founder of the Invasive Art initiative, an arts-focused travelling project that promotes environmental dialogues and public workshops on practical + creative use for invasive plant species across Southwest BC. They can often be found in the bushes partaking in environmental restoration or looking at birds.
~~~ In addition to participation in this workshop, your ticket includes access to our General Admission Create! Art Zone located in Strathcona Park on July 27th from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM. The Art Zone will feature multiple drop-in public participation art activities, access to the Festival Art Shop, as well as the beer garden, food trucks AND live music presented in partnership with Light Organ Records & 604 Records. To get into the Art Zone, you will have to show your workshop ticket.~~~~

This is workshop is part of the 4th annual CREATE! The Eastside Arts Society is thrilled to announce that the 9th Annual Art! Bike! Beer! Crawl fundraiser & tour will be held in person on Saturday, July 27th, 2024 a part of the CREATE! Eastside Arts Festival. Tickets are each $55 + GST & processing fee.
