Develop your skills in bookbinding on our 3 week intermediate course.
This course will run over 3 sessions on Wednesdays 8th, 15th & 22nd May, 6:30 – 9:00pm.
Explore slightly more complex forms of bookbinding, including hardback books. You will also gain ideas for future projects to try at home. You will produce some books which take a bit more time, but still at an easy pace and with plenty of support.
What experience do I need?
This course is ideal for those who have already attended our Introduction to Bookbinding course, or one day bookbinding workshops. It is designed for those who already have some familiarity with bookbinding and want to build on that and discover new ways of making books.
What will I make?
You will make a substantial hardback sketchbook. You’ll also produce concertina or leporello books, multi-section stitches, and case bindings.
Who is my tutor?
Susie Rumsby is a Printmaking Instructor at Leeds Arts University, where she introduces students to screen print, etching, linocut, monoprint and bookbinding. Before coming to teach art in Leeds, Susie studied printmaking in Portland, Oregon, where she also worked as a master printer’s apprentice, an artists’ assistant, and at Portland Art Museum helping to put on shows of prints and drawings. Susie is a founding committee member of Leeds Print Workshop, and believes in making the fun of printmaking open to as many people as possible.

Do I need to bring anything?
Leeds Print Workshop will provide all the bookbinding tools you will need, as well as paper, buckram and any other materials needed to make your books. However, if you have some interesting papers which you think would make a good book, feel free to bring them along.

FAQs
If I can't attend can I get a refund?
We will refund you, less a 10% admin fee, if you cancel no less than 14 days before the start of the course, after this time no refunds will be issued. Transfers are also possible up until 14 days before the start of the course. By making a booking you are agreeing to our full course terms and conditions which can be found on our website here.
What if the course is cancelled?
We reserve the right to cancel the course for any reason (for example, insufficient bookings). We will endeavour to give at least 7 days notice if the course is cancelled and in the event of cancellation we will, of course, issue you a full refund.
Accessibility
Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible. By their nature, some printmaking processes involve an amount of physical effort. Leeds Print Workshop is based in a basement studio at Patrick Studios, a bespoke venue for artists operated by East Street Arts. It is wheelchair accessible, with a lift, larger than standard doors and accessible toilet facilities. We recognise that everybody’s accessibility needs may differ, therefore please email us at [email protected] to discuss any concerns you may have before booking. There is one blue badge car parking space to the side of the building on Rider Street, subject to availability.
Please note: we regret that, for safety reasons, only those over the age of 16 will be permitted to undertake the course.
