In honour of the recently deceased Rob Reiner, Book-to-Film presents The Princess Bride. This cult classic loved by so many is a swashbuckling adventure for kids and a tongue-in-cheek adult take on film tropes, politics and anything that comes within its sights. Besides the main actors Cary Elwes, Peter Falk, Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin and Wallace Shawn, the unfolding narrative features hilarious cameos from actors like Peter Cook, Billy Crystal and Mel Smith.

Based on the eponymous novel by William Goldman, who also adapted the screenplay, the book is available in paperback, Kindle and Audible.

In a review of the film for its 30th anniversary, The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw gave it five out of five stars noting that ‘after 30 years, the wit, fun, charm and idealism are fresher than ever.’ If you have yet to see the film you are in for a joyful, clever and witty romp that brings out in the viewer both their inner innocent child and their positive adult self. The book and the film joyfully transport us back to a different age of film making and writing.
