The Author Series Committee at DPL is pleased to welcome Detroiter Jessica Nabongo for a fireside chat. Nabongo, famous for traveling to every country in the world, is the author of The Catch Me If You Can. Nabongo will be joined by retired Detroit Free Press travel journalist Ellen Creager.
Copies of Nabongo's book will be available from Detroit's own Source Booksellers.
About Jessica: Jessica Nabongo is a global citizen, master storyteller, and travel expert, who is the first black woman to have traveled to every country in the world. Named one of the 50 Most Notable People in Travel, by Travel and Leisure, Jessica uses her platforms to educate and inspire others to experience the world around them and build a global community, with an emphasis on bringing untold stories to the world. Her first book, , published by National Geographic, was an instant bestseller.
A first generation American, Jessica was born and raised in Detroit by Ugandan parents. She attended St. John’s University in New York where she earned a degree in English Literature, later completing a graduate degree at the London School of Economics. She is also the founder of the lifestyle brand The Catch. When she’s not on a plane, she is home tending to her plants in Detroit and LA.
About Ellen: Ellen Creager is a travel writer, journalist and author who writes for both children and adults. She reported from all over the world as travel writer for the Detroit Free Press from 2003 to 2016. Her work has appeared in many magazines and in newspapers worldwide through the Gannett and Tribune newswires.
She is author of three timely biographies published in January 2019 by Lucent Press for ages 10-13 -- about Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, star Oprah Winfrey and Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai. In 2018 she was author of four books for middle grade readers about recent immigrants to the United States. She lives in southeast Michigan.
