The Hopper Family, 1651-1951. Book talk with Ree Hopper
In-person at Ridgewood Public Library
Open to GSBC members and non-Members
Ree Hopper will discuss her newly revised first volume and newly published second volume of the genealogy of the Hopper family through eight generations. Andries Hoppe and his wife Geertje Hendrick Hopper arrived in New Amsterdam in 1651 and founded a family that settled in Bergen County and then spread throughout the country. Ree will discuss some of her favorite Hoppers: Andrew Hopper and Maria Larue, hosts to George Washington; Capt. Jonathan Hopper, murdered by Tories; Jasper Hopper, who has the first known Hopper portrait; Edward Hopper, the artist; and Admiral Grace Hopper. Along the way she will also discuss Ridgewood veterinarians, kissing cousins, a civil war hero, and a Hopper bigamist. Books will be available for purchase from the author.
Maria Jean "Ree" Pratt Hopper is a professional genealogist, retired teacher, and a long-time member of the Genealogical Society of Bergen County.
