About this Event
Join us for a book talk on "Design, Politics, & Agency" at BookWoman on Friday March 28th.
Books are available for purchase.
This book talk surveys the meaningful ways that people have created agency in the history of design. The talk draws on examples in politics and activist movements.
The examples come from a new book that surveys product design from preindustrial times to the present day, Product Design, Technology, and Social Change. This pocket history provides a thorough examination of the relationship between products, consumption, sustainability, politics, and social movements.
The book is written by designer, researcher, and author, Laura Sang Hee Scherling, Ed.D. Her website is laurascherling.info and her Instagram is laura.skierling. Scherling is the co-founder of GreenspaceNYC and Civic Art Lab and is a director and faculty at Columbia University in NYC.
