Join us for an evening talk celebrating the newly released Barkley L. Hendricks: Piles of Inspiration Everywhere with authors Susan Hendricks and David Katzenstein. Hear about Hendricks' life, career, legacy, and the environment that inspired him.

Barkley L. Hendricks: Piles of Inspiration Everywhere explores the physical space where renowned artist Barkley L. Hendricks worked and lived. This book invites readers into the space Barkley and Susan shared for thirty-five years, offering readers a bold, detailed study of the artist’s life.

Date & Time: October 9th, talk at 6 pm, reception to follow.

About the Authors

Susan Hendricks is the Managing Director of the Estate of Barkley L. Hendricks, honoring the artist’s iconic portrayal of African American identity and culture, expanding his reach through engagement with museums, galleries, and cultural institutions. She works to ensure that Hendricks’ groundbreaking contributions to contemporary art remain accessible to future generations and are recognized for their profound impact on both art history and social discourse.


David Katzenstein is a New York based photographer, who throughout his career has traveled the world to visually chronicle humanity. In 2018, he formed the nonprofit organization, The Human Experience Project, that creates content to support the mission of organizations who work to inspire lifelong learning and strengthen our communities. He is also the managing editor of the Barkley L. Hendricks Photography Archive. He is the author of books Ritual (2022) and Distant Journeys (2024), and of Brownie (Fall 2025).
