“The Anxious Generation” is a #1 New York Times best-selling book by author, Jonathan Haidt. This book explores the rise in mental health issues (particularly anxiety and depression) among young people today. The author argues that the shift from a “play-based childhood” to a “phone-based childhood” is causing our younger generation a lot of troubles not seen in earlier generations. He contends that screen addiction, overprotective parenting, and lack of regular real-world play are all contributing to the “rewiring” of our kid’s brains – and not in a particularly healthy manner.
Join Pastor Heather on Wednesday nights beginning September 10th for a book discussion. You can purchase the book in paperback or e-book for approximately $10-$20. It is NOT necessary to read the book to participate in the group discussion, as we are aware that young parents have a LOT of time commitments already. Pastor Heather will provide highlights from each chapter of the book each week for group discussion. However, even if you have time to listen to it electronically while doing something else, she believes the information will be thought provoking and helpful for those who are parenting kids of all ages.
