Join us for an author reading and book signing for The Great Appalachian Redemption, a young adult novel written by Alec Neu and illustrated by Carly Thaw. Follow middle schoolers Ali, Jake, and Noah as they are sent by the Mothman to the utopian city of Huxley on a mission to convince its citizens to leave their luxurious paradise and return to West Virginia, begging the question: why would anyone choose to come back to a state that is losing more and more people each day?
Along the way, the three friends will visit typical Appalachian towns, run into popular West Virginian cryptids and Native American spirits, and set forth a chain of events that will lead to a final showdown between the region's most popular monsters.
The Great Appalachian Redemption creates a window into the common dilemmas and experiences of the coming-of-age Appalachian and ultimately provides solutions for these ever-present crises.
Alec Neu is a West Virginia boomerang who came back to the state for two things: friendship and Husson's Pizza. His mission is to create unique Appalachian mythologies and works of art that reinvent the way we see our home.
Carly Thaw is a watercolor painter and illustrator originally from Charleston, West Virginia. She grew up immersed in the outdoor recreation community which significantly influences her work. Her paintings primarily focus on the stunning natural beauty of the Earth, but she also loves to capture the special nuances of human culture in West Virginia and the outdoor rec community.
