On Wednesday October 1st you’re invited to International Library of Fashion Research for the launch of Adam Murray's new book "The Domestic Stage: When Fashion Image Comes Home" published by Thames & Hudson. From 18.00-20.00 there will be free drinks, an introduction to the project and limited books for sale. An archive display further expanding on the book's theme, curated by Adam Murray and with base in International Library of Fashion Research's permanent collection, will also be presented. Welcome!
A bold interpretation of contemporary photography, this book explores the role of the domestic interior in fashion photography and its importance in defining a new kind of fashion image. Since the 1990s, fashion imagery has evolved from the aspirational and glamorous into an experimental genre created by interdisciplinary artists, art directors, and photographers. The domestic space or where we live has acquired a key role as an intimate setting for this kind of playful exploration, in which personal stories are told, and fashion shots gain authenticity. Illustrated interviews with or editorials on twenty-two established and newer image-makers offer exceptional insights into this phenomenon.
