About this Event

Drawing on photo history, media studies, visual studies, art history, and the digital humanities, Photo Obscura explores the relationship between photography and post-photography. It argues that new and expanding methods for printing, acquiring, making, and displaying images amount to a profound transformation that is not merely a trend but a significant movement that redefines photography by integrating it with emerging technologies and creative practices, resulting in works that may not even resemble photographs but still retain a photographic influence. The book is structured around various themes, including AI-generated images, the intersection of digital and physical art forms, and the changing relationship between visual representation and perception with in-depth discussions of artworks by Richard A. Carter, Stephanie Dinkins, Snow Yunxue Fu, Carla Gannis, Pascal Greco, Claudia Hart, Auriea Harvey, Sophie Kahn, Ida Kvetny, Lev Manovich, Maria Mavropoulou, Rosa Menkman, Colette Robbins, Penelope Umbrico, and Diana Velasco.

Books will be available for purchase, light refreshments will be served, and featured artists will be in attendance at this informal event.
