Book launch party for Amuchechukwu Nwafor and Salt Water Roots

Join co-host Teri Cross Davis, Robert Bettmann, and the Day Eight community, to celebrate the release of the new poetry book, Salt Water Roots, by Amuchechukwu Nwafor.

Amuchechukwu Nwafor is a Washington, D.C.- based poet, teaching artist, and educator. She is the 2024 winner of the DC Poet Project, an open-to-all poetry competition designed to surface exceptional new poets. A first-generation born Black American, Amuchechukwu's poetry touches on the diaspora, mental health, and the female experience.

Teri Cross Davis, author of A More Perfect Union, wrote, “Amuchechukwu Nwafor presents a narrative that excavates the practice of the patriarchy… Nwafor explores the expansiveness of the African diaspora and gives it a beating red heart. These poems are an exaltation of blackness and are unafraid.”

DETAILS FOR ATTENDEES

During this event the author and special guests will read from the book. This is an in-person event, free and open to all, that will take place at the MLK Library, 901 G St NW, Room 401-E, Space is limited and advanced registration is requested. Signed copies of the book are available for purchase through registration on eventbrite. Two ticket types are available: free attendee tickets and “gold tickets” that include a signed copy of the book. Several modes of public transportation are close to the library.
