Meet Jane Thornthwaite, former MLA, who has a strong record of advocating for animal rights, improving child and youth mental health services, lobbying for accessible and equitable addiction recovery services, helping to change legislation on behalf of 2SLGBTQIA+ groups, and improving services for sexual assault survivors.
Her page-turning #1 bestseller became an instant hit on Amazon in eight different categories including Political Leadership, Political Biographies, Hot New Releases, and Movers & Shakers. It quickly became one of Amazon’s top 100 books and at one point was selling more than Michelle Obama’s BECOMING audiobook, Pope Francis’s LIFE and Prince Harry’s SPARE.
Thornthwaite’s book is only part of the story of her political life and is a must read for anyone wanting a behind-the-scenes look at how politics works, but also for those aspiring politicians and individuals who have passion projects they want to get done but need assistance on how to do so.
“Serving as an elected official can be very rewarding,” says Thornthwaite, “but it also has a dark and cruel side that has grown exponentially darker with the advent of social media. People can now attack others anonymously with no thought to the impact of those words on the target. And it is much worse for women in politics.”
A message from Jane:
"Election Day is quickly approaching, and BC politics just keeps getting more interesting! With the United campaign 'suspended,' now what? What happens to all the candidates, the current united MLA’s who want to run again, and their volunteers and donors?
Many questions remain . I feel for many of my former colleagues who have suddenly found themselves without a home. My book talks a lot about political loyalty and betrayal, how you can never really call your political friends real friends, and how your leader can essentially throw you under the bus when you least expect it.
My book covers it all. And more!
There will be lots of time for Q&A and discussion about what’s percolating before the provincial election on October 19, at my book launch on October 8. It will be an informative and facinating evening with current, former and hopeful politicians in attendance, plus anyone wanting a sneak peek at what goes on behind the scenes in politics. Plus 100% of the proceeds from book sales that evening are going to the BCSPCA."
