Come join us in celebrating the publication of LJ Slovin’s Fierce, Fabulous and Fluid: How Trans High School Students Work at Gender Nonconformity on Tuesday October 15th at 6pm. Hosted by Massy Arts Gallery, LJ Slovin will be featured in conversation with Hélène Frohard-Dourlent about this book that Rabble.ca describes as, "...essential reading for everyone trying to understand how trans and gender-nonconforming youth inhabit the current political moment.” Stay to ask questions and get your copy signed by the author!

About the Author and Moderator
LJ Slovin
LJ Slovin is the Martha LA McCain Postdoctoral Fellow at the Bonham Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies at the University of Toronto. Their work has been published in Curriculum Inquiry, Journal of LGBT Youth, Sex Education, and RERM. Slovin was a Vanier Scholar, and the 2020 recipient of the Pat Clifford Award. They are the author of Fierce, Fabulous and Fluid: How Trans High School Students Work at Gender Nonconformity (NYUP and URP, 2024). In January, they will begin as an Assistant Professor in the Child and Youth Care program at the University of Victoria.
Hélène Frohard-Dourlent
Hélène Frohard-Dourlent (they/them; she/her) is the Executive Director, Operations, at the Equity & Inclusion Office at the University of British Columbia, where their work has focused on embedding equitable practices into institutional systems, practices and policies, with a particular focus on gender data and gendered records. They hold a PhD in sociology from the University of British Columbia, and their research focused on the way that K-12 administrators and educators navigate the cultural and policy landscape while attempting to support trans and gender-nonconforming young people.
