An evening of stories, music, insights and analysis about refugees in the UK, community work approaches and the experience of Afghan women.
About this Event

After losing home and experiences of trauma, marginalised migrant groups arriving in the UK face blocks to accessing services and barriers to becoming integrated into their community.

Essential mainstream services fail to engage many marginalised migrant and refugee women and to respond effectively to their needs. This raises serious questions about how community development can respond and facilitate positive spaces and reduce isolation.

At this launch of the book "Community Work with Migrant and Refugee Women: Insiders and Outsiders in Research and Practice" authors and guests including those with lived experience, condider the impact of policy on migrant and refugee women, drawing on a three-year case study of a community-based organisation working with marginalised Muslim women in London.

The evning will highlight the importance of the cultural relevance of services, and a holistic approach to integration - affirming the full range of needs and experiences migrant and refugee women face.

Through stories, music and a panel discussion the evening will celebrate community work approaches that centre on both the needs and assets of refugee women, who confront the challenges facing migrants in the UK.
