About this Event
Join us to celebrate the launch of a new artist’s book by David Armes, artist and printer based in Calderdale, West Yorkshire. David was one of our artists-in-residence at the StreetLife project in 2022, and we welcome him back today to present his newest work.
‘Cities Look Like Teeth’ is a book of laser-cut images and letterpress-printed texts that chronicle David’s travels across Europe. For almost a decade he toured the continent multiple times with bands; tour manager, musician, driver, merch seller, tech. By 2020 the work stopped, for multiple reasons: Brexit, Covid, parenthood, family illness. This book is a way to document his experiences via image and text that interrogate memory, chronology and location.
David will present the book, showing the laser-cut images alongside original photographs from his travels, talking through its making and taking your questions. There will also be an accompanying series of large-format prints on show that extend the book off the page.
