Meet the Black Brooklynites who defined New York City’s most populous borough through their search for social justice in Prithi Kanakamedala's Brooklynites. An active public historian, Kanakamedala has worked with a range of cultural organizations across the city and, in her research, focuses on community-building, race, and citizenship in Brooklyn and New York’s 19th-century free Black communities. Her newly launched title Brooklynites illustrates the depth and scope of four families' activism and is a story of land, home, labor, of New Yorkers past, and the legacy they left us. Joining her in conversation, and returning to the Greenlight stage, is novelist Kaitlyn Greenidge (Libertie). This will be followed by a Q&A and author signing.
