Deborah Mutnick presents No Race, No Country: The Politics and Poetics of Richard Wright
Educator, author and Greenlight neighbor Deborah Mutnick (creator of the Voices of Lefferts community history project) takes the stage at Greenlight to present No Race, No Country, a major reconsideration of the work and life of author Richard Wright, who lived in Fort Greene while writing Native Son. Challenging standard evaluations of Wright's reputation, Mutnick engages a wide range of Wright's work throughout his career, providing a nuanced perspective on his complicated gender politics, his proto-ecological consciousness, and his serious engagement with Marxism and civil rights and anticolonial movements. Mutnick reads from and discusses the book in-depth, before an audience Q&A and signing.
