Join and or the Book Club Fair & Film Screening: Cake, a community-centered celebration of literature, film, and meaningful connection.
This book club fair will bring together book clubs and readers from across the Chicagoland area. Guests will have the opportunity to discover local book clubs, meet fellow readers, expand your bookclub network, and engage in conversations that inspire connection, reflection, and healing.
The event will conclude with a special screening of "Cake" (2026), a 17-minute Chicago made short film written and directed by Erick Juarez. The film follows a single mother determined to create a memorable seventh birthday for her son, offering a heartfelt story about love, resilience, and the power of community.
Filmed throughout Pilsen, Lakeview, and Avondale, "Cake," received 2nd Place for the Audience Choice Award at the 2026 Chicago Latino Film Festival. A community discussion will follow the screening.
