Book Club: Changes in the Land
About this Event
This fall, join Duke Farms for a book club discussing Changes in the Land: Indians, Colonists and the Ecology of New England by William Cronon. Published in 1983, this seminal work of environmental history examines how the arrival of Europeans and colonial logics of land enclosure, commodification, and extraction transformed the New England landscape. In the era of climate crisis and environmental precarity, Cronon’s writing on political ecologies remains relevant as ever.
Online resources and discussion material may be shared prior to the meeting date. The program includes guided discussion followed by a field walk.
