I am looking for parents to speak up about the recent ban of Rainbow Parade in our elementary schools. It is an award winning, highly regarded book where a young girl with two mom's attends a Pride celebration. She is hesitant to join in at first but when she sees how much fun everyone else is having she finds her place too. There is absolutely nothing sexual or perverse about this book but it does mirror lives of current community members today. Our schools and Libraries will be facing a plethora of book challenges and the first foray for Pekel was to give in on a challenge to a book that was even a Kohl's Cares book. It is truly a loving and heartwarming story. I can all but guarantee that there are other books on school shelves that have butts in them but since they are not LGBTQIA+ centered those are fine to stay. Action: sign up to comment your support of allowing books that our highly educated media specialist not only support but were chosen for a reason. When we need to trust professionals it is those librarians we need to trust. Sign up to make a comment by 5pm Mon Jan 20th here

Can't make the board meeting (like myself) then send an email to the superintendent and school board here [email protected]
This will not be the last challenge but this was the absolute worst decision to set the tone for the coming years.
I will be adding the Superintendents letter to the board for his reasoning as well as the email to myself in the discussion of this group. Any and all Anti LGBTQIA+ comments will be swiftly deleted without warning or explanation.
Please share with your like minded friends, groups and networks.
