Book arts workshop: Changing Perspective
Sat Mar 25 2023 at 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
Free Library of Philadelphia - Parkway Central Library | Philadelphia, PA
About this Event
Creating art journals for creative and spiritual expression with found objects and images, all bound in a coptic stitch style will allow for participants to grow with their journal, and in turn, change the perspective they have on their own creativity and comfort zone.
Taylor Monique, also known as rough draft, is a Philadelphia based poet, mixed-media artist, and spiritualist. Utilizing art journaling, collage, sewing and fiber art with writing to express herself, she has found comfort in the page and hopes to share that flame with all-- as she believes everyone has a creative fire within. During the pandemic, when she no longer felt the inspiration and drive to write, she transferred her creative skills to bookbinding and fashion design, founding Poetry For the Streets (formerly known as stuffnotherthings) and sharing her words and message through upcycled clothing, journals, and more. She is finally regaining her voice and bringing it back to the page, in her own handmade journals.
This free workshop is part of a series made possible by a partnership between the Free Library's Art Department and the Philadelphia Center for the Book. Space in these very popular classes is limited; please let us know in advance if you will not be able to attend after you have registered so that we can release tickets to those on the waiting list. General registration opens Monday, March 13th at 12:00pm.
The class will meet in the Heim Center, on the 1st floor of the Parkway Central Library, accessible through the Wood St. entrance behind the building.
